The Government of Ontario has announced plans for a proposed Transit-Oriented Community (TOC) at the future High Tech Station.

Community input is an essential first step.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our virtual public consultation about the future of High Tech as a true mixed-use transit-oriented community.

Location

Located south of High Tech Road, east of Yonge Street, north of Highway 7 and west of Red Maple Road, the 17.2 hectare development site at the future High Tech Station is proposed to bring together increased transit connections, a range of housing choices and community amenities in a complete, walkable community.

Project Highlights

Transit

Connections to:

  • Langstaff GO Station/GO Bus Service
  • VIVA Rapid Transit
  • York Region (Local) Transit
  • 2 future Subway Stations: Bridge and High Tech
  • Future 407 Transitway

Jobs

Over 9,000 new jobs, connected to transit and residential space to support vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhoods.

Housing

Approximately 20,000 new units, including affordable housing, in an integrated community, connected to transit.

Parks and Greenspace

Approximately 46,000 square metres of parkland is proposed which is nearly 27% of the net site area, including a bold and spacious linear park the entire length of the station area and revitalization of the greenspace along the existing hydro corridor.

Sustainable Planning

The High Tech Station site is within Richmond Hill Centre – an area identified and planned for strategic population and employment growth.

Partnerships

In May 2020, Ontario and York Region officially signed the Ontario-York Region Transit Partnership Preliminary Agreement, confirming plans to extend the existing Yonge Subway (Line 1) north from Finch Station to better connect people, communities, and jobs in major employment centres, such as Markham and Richmond Hill.

What are Transit-Oriented Communities?

Through the Transit-Oriented Communities program, the Ontario government is working with third parties to integrate transit and community development, making commuting easier and faster by bringing more jobs and more housing closer to transit.
